Client Challenge

BMW required a workplace strategy aligned to post-pandemic behaviours, where employees prioritised focused work at home and came to the office for collaboration, connection, and shared experiences, challenging traditional assumptions around how workplace environments should function.

Design response

A workplace concept centred on collaborative hubs, redefining the role of the office through engagement-led, behaviour-driven design.

Collaborative hubs

Central collaborative and social hubs were proposed to support interaction, knowledge sharing, and team engagement, creating spaces designed specifically for the activities employees identified as most valuable when working from the office.

Behaviour-led design

Extensive staff engagement informed the concept, ensuring the workplace responds directly to employee needs, supporting a clear shift towards collaboration in-office and focused work elsewhere.

Challenging convention

The process challenged traditional workplace assumptions, encouraging the client to rethink the role of the office and adopt a more progressive, future-focused approach aligned to evolving ways of working.

Delivery

Zenixspace led the development of the workplace strategy and concept design, including coordination of MEP design, change management planning, and creation of a rollout playbook to support implementation and adoption across the client’s wider portfolio.
